Corrective Action
Any sound performance management system should include a standardized corrective action plan. The lack of a sound corrective action procedure is all too common across organizations. Given its importance and ease of implementation, it is a quick initial step to major improvement.
The goal of the corrective action process is to provide organizations with a standardized method in which to assess performance issues, and to use a data-driven approach to define root causes. The corrective action system drives the organization to find the most appropriate action given the root causes, and ultimately tracks the actions and results that have been achieved. In an organization with a standardized corrective action plan, the leadership can rest assured that performance issues are managed at the point of impact with the organization. In the case of a question about performance, the leadership team can ask for the documentation that is part of the corrective action system.
