Strategic Project Program
The strategic project program is designed to address large scale, strategic projects utilizing internal resources to the maximum extent possible. Strategic projects are often of a nature that would have historically resulted in a traditional consulting engagement. However, leadership teams are beginning to recognize the issues of lukewarm implementation success, and lack of knowledge transfer in traditional consulting engagements. An increasing number of leadership teams are opting for a strategic project model of the sort we provide.
When using our strategic project services, we work hand in hand with the leadership team and a carefully selected team of customer associates that conduct the project work. Our role in a strategic project is to provide the education and mentoring that enables the team to conduct the project work on their own.
The training we provide draws upon all of our excellence strategies and is delivered in a “just in time” fashion. As we work with your team and identify the need to train a particular topic, the training is delivered on the spot. This knowledge is subsequently applied directly to the strategic project.
The strategic project has five distinct phases:
- Baseline of the existing situation across the following dimensions
- Customers
- Process
- Organization / Roles and Responsibilities
- Purpose and measurement
- Unit of work
- Identification of key leverage points
- Development of the Ideal Final Result
- Development of the Best Practical Process (Business Process Design)
- Implementation
Examples of the kinds of areas and opportunities that are well-suited for a strategic project model are:
- Financial turnaround initiatives
- Building the operational infrastructure for growth initiatives
- Improvements that require the integration of interdisciplinary and interdepartmental areas
- Patient flow from needs identification through pre-operative services and same day surgery
- Emergency department flow, wait times, diversion issues
- Post acquisition integration or merger integration
- Implementation of standard processes across an entire healthcare system
- Revenue Cycle improvements
- Supplies Management
