TRIZ

TRIZ, or “the Theory of Inventive Problems Solving”, is a methodology developed and perfected in the former Soviet Union. The development of the methodology was led by Genrich Altshuller and began in 1946. The premise of TRIZ is that invention, or inventive problem solving, can be achieved much more efficiently than traditionally practiced by following a logical algorithm. The TRIZ method was developed by tracing and analyzing over 2 million patents. The process of invention was discovered in the course of analyzing these case studies. The TRIZ method demonstrates that solutions to problems follow certain generic patterns. If a problem can be properly classified, it may already have been solved. TRIZ also draws heavily on finding solutions outside of the traditional intra-industry solution space. Solutions may be transferred from one area of application to another.

TRIZ is used by such organization as Eil Lilly, Ford, Motorola, Siemens and hundreds of others. It is one of the most powerful methodologies for rethinking problems and finding truly innovative solutions.
